POLL: Americans Are More Satisfied With Their Country Than They Have Been In A Decade

Americans are more satisfied with the United States’ place in the world now than they have been in more than a decade, according to a new poll from Gallup — and that number has grown by more than 10% in the past year alone.

According to the respected polling company, 45% of Americans “are satisfied with the position of the United States in the world,” up 13 points from January of 2017 and, coincidentally, a 13-year high.

Gallup is quick to point out that only 29% of Americans think that President Donald Trump is “respected” by other nations and world leaders, but it’s clear that Americans don’t seem to believe that particular character trait is a negative one.

Although former President Obama had a much different approach to international diplomacy (one that Americans felt, at the time, was well-received by world leaders), Americans seem to believe that Trump’s tougher hand hasn’t harmed how other nations feel about the country as a whole.

This poll is extremely good news for Trump, and even perhaps for Republicans, generally. Last year, just before Trump’s inauguration, American satisfaction with their own country took a major dip, to just 36%, likely over the popular perception that Trump represented a “failure” on the part of the American public to select a proper president.

But according to Gallup, that perception seems to have “broken,” and even as Trump’s job approval ratings have “failed to improve,” the polling group says Americans now believe we’re in a better position in the world than we were in the final year of the Obama Administration.
