16-year-old wanted in double shooting that killed rapper ID’d

Homicide detectives obtained judicial permission to release the identity of a youth as they look for a suspect in the June 30 murder of a Toronto-based rapper.

Police issued first-degree murder warrants for  Keyshawn Jones, 16, of Toronto, who’s wanted in the slayings of 21-year-old Jahvante Smart — better known as Toronto-based rapper Smoke Dawg — and 28-year-old Ernest Modekwe. He’s also wanted for the attempted murder of a third person who was treated and released from hospital after the shooting.

The judicial authorization granted to identify the youth expires July 17 at 2:30 p.m.

Police have previoulsy announced they are also looking for Abdulkadir Handule, 22, of Toronto, who’s also wanted for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Late last month, Smart and Modekwe were gunned down by two armed suspects in what police sources described to the Toronto Sun at the time as a “running gun battle” along a busy stretch of Queen St. W., at Peter St., a little before 8 p.m.

A loaded firearm was found on Smart’s body after he was transported to hospital.

Police advise people not to approach eithter suspect. They urge anyone who sees one of them to call 911.
