Eleven GTA Conservative Party candidates have written to the federal Liberal Infrastructure Minister asking him to “stop playing politics” and fund the proposed downtown Ontario subway line.
“The Ontario Line was nominated for federal funding in May 2019 and your government refused to support it, claiming there was no ‘business case,’” the letter, obtained by the Toronto Sun, says. “This is from the same Liberal government that just last month announced funding of $1.3 Billion for the eastern expansion of the Montreal metro — a project that has an estimated cost, but no final cost, and certainly no formal business case. ”
The Ontario Line, previously known as the downtown relief line, would as proposed by the Doug Ford government stretch from Ontario Place to the Ontario Science Centre, serving as an alternative route to the crowded Yonge subway line.
