Policing fee, roadwork deal threaten Santa parade

Policing costs could drive the Santa Claus parade into the red unless it gets help covering a new security fee charged by police for the annual event, organizers say.

Already detoured by roadwork for London’s new $16-million, pedestrian-friendly flex street along a stretch of Dundas Street, the parade for the first time is facing $7,000 in policing costs.

That’s been negotiated down by half, from $14,000, as the London police force, trying to rein in its own budget, has begun charging for crowd control and security at community events.
