Former Green Party leader calls for oil industry to die

Elizabeth May, the former head of the Green Party in Canada, says she hopes the Canadian oil industry doesn’t survive the current crisis.

With oil hitting historic lows, there have been reports of Ottawa preparing a $15-billion bailout to help hard hit oil companies.

But that doesn’t sit well with May, a Vancouver Island MP.

“We have to hope that there is zero bail out for fossil fuel production,” May tweeted.

Instead, she said any bailout money should be used for starting to clean up the oilsands and orphaned wells.
