Bradford NHS doctor Paul Southern dies suddenly as tributes flood in for 'selfless' professional

 


Dr Paul Southern, who was a Consultant Hepatologist, Associate Medical Director and Chief Clinical Information Officer at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, suddenly died at the start of this week.

Bradford Teaching Hospital as well as a number of patients, their families and colleagues have been left saddened by the news and have paid tribute to Dr Southern. He has been described as a 'loved' and 'selfless' man.

Dr Southern joined Bradford Teaching Hospital in 2008 and was well-known and respected within the Trust and across Yorkshire.


Chief Medical Officer at the Trust, Dr Ray Smith, said: “Paul was hugely respected by clinical colleagues as an exemplary doctor and loved by his patients for his care. He was truly a people person, always positive and had huge empathy with his patients – he embodied all that is good about the NHS.”


Chief Executive Professor Mel Pickup, added: “Paul’s enthusiasm and energy was boundless, he was always generous with his time and a constant help to colleagues, near and far.
