A new survey suggests Tim Hortons has fallen out of favour with Canadians, plummeting 25 points and dropping more than 40 spots from 2017 in an annual corporate reputation ranking.
The coffee-and-doughnut chain dropped from fourth place to 50th on a ranking of 100 companies Canadians most admire in a study conducted by Leger and National Public Relations.
National’s managing partner Rick Murray says in the report that Tim Hortons was “a perennial top five brand that we’ve previously believed impervious to issue, but has fallen mightily in the court of public opinion.
Tim Hortons recently faced an onslaught of negative publicity as some of its Ontario franchisees clawed back employee benefits, like paid breaks, to help offset the province’s minimum wage hike, claiming their corporate parent did not provide assistance. The move sparked nationwide protests and prompted some consumers to boycott the chain.

Anyone who drinks their coffee black doesn’t like Tim Hortons coffee it tastes like crap. The people who do like it like the cream because of its high fat content.
Good. I hope this sends a message to other corporations that if you mess with your workers, you may have to pay with your public support.
Did they also lose business or just public opinion ranking?
Timmy Bill
Spoken like someone who has never run a business.
Timmies isn’t even Canadian any more. It’s owned by Wendy’s.
It was, but is now owned by 3G, which owns Burger King.
Getting passed around like a Japanese bukkake girl.
Seems its only the Red Pigs who are miffed at Timmies for actually having to cut hours to deal with the Lieberal Party’s idiot MW policy.
Seems to me they are doing well…if the number of empty Timmies cups I still see strewn all over Thor’s creation is any indication.
It was a Liberal Party hit!
Zactly!
Why anyone drinks that swill at TH is beyond me… fvck TH ( & Crapbux ) …
Well what the hell DO you drink??? Third Cup?
They do, but still a large global company. I tend to go to the little guys.
SB’s makes a nice green tea frappachino!
New owners took over the Timmies near my home a few weeks ago and it’s like night and day in that place. It’s cleaner than it’s ever been before, the number of loiterers who use the place as a bus shelter or mooch the wifi without buying anything is way down, and the speed an accuracy of service is greatly improved. There has been a huge staff turnover, the new employees all understand English and the ones who quit were all useless as tits on a boar anyway. So things are really lookin’ up.
It seems the new owners read the riot act and told everybody that if they think they’re gonna get $15/hr for doing $8/hour worth of work they’ve got another think coming. LOL
They closed the drug infested dirty “International” TH & opened 2 more. I rarely went before but easy access plus clean & friendly. Can even understand them, which is a plus in my eyes.
As far as the donuts, they are not like they used to be.
I haven’t been through that ‘hood for a while but I remember the place. Yea, it was ready for the bulldozer years ago.
So is the one in my neck of the woods but there’s going to be an LRT station there some day so I think the new owners are thinking ahead to when this place gets knocked down and replaced with something better.
WTF??? The staff understands English??? That’s not the kind of Timmy’s I know.
Tim Hortons coffee sucks! IMO it tastes like burnt, crushed beetles (yep, I know what that tastes like). Their attitude towards the minimum wage had no effect on this opinion, as I feel many franchise owners had fairly limited options to maintain their franchise and profit.
It’s only been over the last 10 years their coffee has been sliding. Previously, they were my go to.
On the cheap, McDicks has the best coffee and offers a points program. Additionally, their lids fit and they don’t fill the cup to the brim so my hands get soaked with coffee.
Just a regular Joe’s opinion.
I seek out indie coffee places.
Are most good in your experience? I haven’t been to many, although they are normally crowded here. When I have time i’ll just buy beans and brew it at home.
Mmmmmmmm, scorched beetles!
It’s swill to me.
Exactly!
It’s really been a long, slow bait and switch with Timmies. I can completely understand how somebody going in to a Timmies for the first time today would wonder what’s the big deal, this is crap. Because it IS crap.
But if you could open the door and walk into a Timmies where everything is identical to what it was in the 1970s you would see something very different. It really was a great place back then but when they started producing their food in factories and shipping it to the stores to put the finishing touches, that was the beginning of the end. The last 20 years it’s crap and the only reason Timmies makes money today is because their customers are creatures of habit.
