Ontario’s top court has dismissed the appeal of a Toronto Police officer who was convicted of attempted murder in the fatal 2013 shooting of a troubled teen on an empty streetcar.
Const. James Forcillo had fired two separate volleys at Sammy Yatim, an 18-year-old who was wielding a small knife, in an incident that was caught on video and sparked public outrage.
At his 2016 trial, the Forcillo was convicted of attempted murder related to the second volley, but was acquitted of the more serious charge of second-degree murder related to the first volley.
His lawyers said the appeal court’s ruling marked a “very difficult day” for Forcillo
“It remains our view that the appeal raised important and difficult legal questions,” Michael Lacy and Bryan Badali said in a statement. “We will carefully review the court’s decision and in consultation with our client will make a decision as to whether or not we will seek leave to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Canada.”

Enjoy your all expenses paid holiday pig, you got your just desserts.
Seem to recall that it was about 9 seconds (or a very short time) between Forcillo going on the bus and the shots fired. Was he shooting as he asked him to drop the knife?
Anybody riding public transit who is armed with a knife and threatening and whips out their dick might expect to meet up with a steroid raging cop.
The bus driver should have shot the SOB down before anyone had time to call the police.
If this was a combat situation he did a great job but this was not a combat situation and this knife wielding kid was more a threat to himself then absolutely anybody else.
Good to see that justice was actually done this time as sad as the situation turned out!
Once that kid was shot and on the floor this cop had no right to continue to empty his gun of bullets. At that point he acted as an executioner.
Six years was not enough.
The better question is if the video was not there and you were told what happened would you still feel the same way or would the hip hop gear have you thinking Sammy had a chip on his shoulder.
Not related but Officer Lam sure makes Forcillo look worst
If the video was not there, we would have a completely different story fed to us about what actually happened. It’s exactly what the cops don’t like being filmed in Toronto.
Officer Lam is lucky the guy wasn’t strapped with a couple kilos of C4.
People need heroes. Especially non white heroes. Lam fits that bill.
The mentally disturbed guy in the hotel room in Calgary got gunned down like a dog and he hadn’t even killed anyone.
I expect to see the rental truck driver will be found Not Criminally Responsible. After that his defense lawyers will send the government a bill for a few million dollars. By then we’ll likely have another mass casualty event.
Many Ontarians see that as OK. They must. They voted for a spoiled child to be the head of the government.
What, if anything, happened to the cop who tazed Yatim’s dead body after Forcillo had turned it into swiss cheese with 9 bullets?
That is a good question. If I was the victim’s father, I would be bringing charges forth.
Reminds me of the days when The Cop got off because he said he thought the wallet on the dashboard was a gun.
They’ve got new tricks now.
Let him rot in jail!
I’ve read comments elsewhere with people saying he was just doing his job. Unbelievable!
