Mississauga police officer charged with sex assault, sexual exploitation

A Peel Region police officer working out of Mississauga’s 11 Division has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation after allegations were made about an incident in Hamilton.

Const. Ian Fummerton, 36, of Flamborough, was charged by the Hamilton Police Service on May 13.

Hamilton police spokesperson Const. Lorraine Edwards would not reveal any other details, including the circumstances that led to the charges or the age of the alleged victim. However, a charge of sexual exploitation is laid when an alleged victim is at least 16 but under 18 years of age.

Peel police confirmed Fummerton, who has been with the service for 12 years, was suspended with pay the same day the charges were laid.
