Formerly held by the Liberals, Chicoutimi – Le Fjord goes to Conservatives by a huge margin.

In the first test of Justin Trudeau’s supposed popularity bump after the Canada-US trade dispute, his party got crushed in a byelection, losing the seat of Chicoutimi-Le Fjord to the Conservatives.

The seat was previously held by the Liberals under MP Denis Lemieux. But in the byelection, the Conservatives won 53% of the vote. Richard Martel will become the new MP for the area.

The Liberals were far back with 29%.

Meanwhile, the NDP appears to have totally collapsed in Quebec, as they won 8.6%. The Bloc also failed to make a mark in the riding, winning just 5.6%.

For contrast, the previous election results had the Liberals winning 31%, the NDP winning 29.7%, the Bloc winning 20.5%, and the Conservatives getting just 16.6%.
