The parliamentary secretary to the finance minister is expressing his support for wealthy Canadians to pay a little more to address income inequality. And the Liberal MP appears to support a federal inheritance tax to make that happen, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
The MP for Central Nova, N.S., made the comment Monday during a House of Commons debate on tax policy.
During the debate, Fraser noted taxes were raised from 29% to 33% four years ago on Canadians earning $217,000 or more.
Canada does not have an inheritance tax after Parliament abolished the Estate Tax Act at the end of 1971.
