An “Authentic” grading from a card grading company, indicates that the card is so badly damaged as to not qualify for their grading system.. it’s not even a “1” (“10” of course bring the sharpest and best “mint” card).
This would mean there is catastrophic damage, like the entire surface has been torn off, or drawn on… The Bobby Orr rookie I saw at the card shop when I worked there with his eyes drawn out into holes from a ballpoint pen, and “COCKSUCKER” written across his forehead ..would qualify as “Authentic”.
MY Orr rookie, despite it being near flawless in every other regard, would be probably graded “Authentic” in that its missing its edge, cuz the guy who sold it to me said he hated the fake “wood” from that year to make the card look like an old TV set.
