Subhead:The cost-of-living crisis continues as Canadians struggle to make ends meet.# New insolvency data shows Canadian households are buckling under mounting debt pressure, with more than 37,000 people filing for insolvency in just the first three months of 2026. According to figures from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, 37,121 Canadians sought relief under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act between January and March of this year, working out to roughly 17 insolvency filings every hour. The numbers mark the highest quarterly insolvency total since the fallout of the 2008 global financial crisis.
