That actually reminds me of a funny story.
When we bought the house in Newmarket, the basement was in the form of a home bar.

I don’t know why this was a thing in the 70s I guess men all wanted to have their own pubs in their houses so they didn’t have to leave to go get drunk or something.

My Dad always had a barroom in every house we ever had.

Buncha drunks.

Anyway, when we first came into the new house, the ceiling of this barroom had this disgusting yellow plaid canvas stapled to all the rafters.

They had done a good job of keeping the plaid straight and stapled evenly, but it was still this disgusting pilly canvas fabric.

My Mom came down and she said, “Oh, that’s gotta go!”
My brother came and looked at it and said, “Oh man that’s gotta go!”
I came down and said, “Oh my God that’s horrible that’s gotta go!”

Dad came down and said, “I love it!” UGH!!…so of course we kept it.

Then we did a renovation like 20 years later and we were all excited about them tearing that hideous plaid canvas off the ceiling to find out what was up there.

I was hoping for a 3 Wish Monkeypaw, or some Mafia gold, or at least some good classic porno magazines.

Even though most of us thought it was going to just be some dead bats, and lots of mouse turds.

We tore it down and we found nothing.

But the rafters were pristine like they’d been put up yesterday.

I think that was the biggest shock how beautiful it was underneath that hideous fabric some idiot took had taken all that time to staple up there.

Yeah and those 10’s of thousands of White Christians who died or were horribly maimed to end slavery…from John Brown to Abe Lincoln.
