Canadian men’s soccer squad ends 34-year winless drought versus U.S.

The Canadian men’s national soccer team ended a 34-year winless drought against the United States with a 2-0 victory at BMO Field in Toronto on Tuesday.

The game was the first of two between the sides in CONCACAF Nations League Group A play. They will meet again on Nov. 15 in Orlando, Fla., for the opportunity to play in the Nations League semifinal.

Along with ending the drought of 17 games without a win against the U.S., Canada picked up a vital 18 points in the FIFA World Rankings, which are being used to determine the six teams in the region who will contend for three and-a-half spots for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
