On October 2, 2019 Disqus announced that they would reinstate the Downvote function on their commenting platform. Although many people didn’t know what to make of this move, many people knew exactly what was to come.
For reasons unknown, Disqus did NOT reinstate the functionality of a Users’ ability to see who is doing the downvoting on any given thread. To those who have studied the opaque and sometimes absurd behavior of Disqus over the years, the timing of this move to coincide with the ending of the Disqus “Channel” service came as no surprise.
With the end of the Disqus Channels came the burst in growth of the recreational Disqus WEBSITE era. Suddenly, Webmasters, WP Editors, and Disqus Moderators had a much more vast array of tools available to root out bad apples, trouble-makers, and spoof-accounts. Although user information remained invisible to all those people mentioned above, the means to control malicious interaction took one giant leap forward.
This is precisely why Disqus chose to keep downvotes anonymous. Those people tasked with managing Disqus on websites were hit with the same old conundrums that plagued – and ultimately led to the demise – of the free Disqus Channels. Suddenly, Webmasters, WP Editors, and Disqus Moderators were tossed right back into the maelstrom of trollery and helplessness that plagued so many Disqus Channel communities just a few short months ago.
Until NOW that is! You’ve heard the expression “there’s an App for that”. Well, there’s a browser extension for that. If you are at the least bit bothered by the downvote fairies that follow your comments only to vote them down, their game is over. Naturally, and as usual the internet finds a way. Naturally, and as usual the Disqus losers eventually …. LOSE!
The recently launched Disqus Downvote Hider extension jumps in and ensures the useless downvote count on comments is invisible. Depending on the web-browser you use to surf the new Disqus-enabled websites, here are a few download sites for you to rid yourself of this needless Disqus “tool” forever ….

Down voting DOES affect your REP /account so once you have a low rep you can’t comment on sites you’re not white listed on. And many just don’t bother doing as there’s no way to ask for whitelisting.
I don’t have the time to be on here day and night so I don’t visit to many sites. It really doesn’t matter to me if I have a bad rep or not. Actually I’d relish it.

I know what you mean. That’s why I post one seemingly intelligent post in the morning in four to five forums and then recheck later to see if a response is warranted. I check pendings, do some photo editing as well as clean house and go shopping.
Yes there is, when you post ask a moderator to whitelist you. We do check the mod panels daily and we will see your post even though it won’t show up on thread.
It would be very easy for Disqus to put a stop to all this kvetching about down votes. All they would have to do is reverse the change they made a couple of years ago when they made down votes anonymous. Go back to the old days when the down voters’ screen names were revealed (just like up votes) and suddenly the whole ‘game’ changes.
But you know as well as I do that the whiners would immediately find something else to whine about. Shit posters, sock puppets, vacuous libtard trolls, old grudges, rivalries, Fake Doxing Scandals, etc. etc. etc. etc…

I wonder why Disqus zeros peoples upvotes? They can fix but chose NOT TO. Seems largely left wing politics. Demotivates posters from posting which does not bode well for Disqus.

Hey Prof, you’ve been at this Disqus stuff for quite awhile, right? When an edit is made by a user to his or her own comment, was the term ‘edited’ always displayed, or is it a more recent thing?

I won’t add extension for now but it does not bother me I more or less by habit know who downvotes me. I don’t troll people but I see it is mostly political. I get downvoted within seconds of a post. Well someone does not have much of a life.

My upvotes have disappeared at about 2000 to 3000 a week. Around here melvin is the downvoter. At CA News it’s melvin and his ursula sock and moosehorn.
That’s who I suspect also as he is as petty and lifeless as it can get.
It’s impossible to know for certain.
Many others can be bothered, are bothered, and will benefit from adding this extension to their browsers.
